We’re starting with real, honest conversations for moms by moms.

Hi, I’m Julianna Goldman. In my previous life, I traveled the world on Air Force One covering President Barack Obama. I reported stories to millions of people on the CBS Evening News. Behind the scenes, I struggled with fertility issues, went through IVF, had my first child and then, felt that my life as a broadcast journalist and my life as a mother weren’t compatible. I felt pushed out of a career. I felt isolated. I wanted to do something else, but I didn’t know what it was. Now, I do.

I founded MamaDen to connect and empower mothers, to elevate the conversation around the work of motherhood at home and in the workforce, and to offer support to help women stay in or return to the workforce.
Moms need mom-friends. Other women who are also in the trenches, our 3am text partners, our resources, our community of support.

When I was on maternity leave with my first child, I joined a local mom’s group. I was also on a 24/7 text chain with two mothers from CBS News, who were also on leave. With my second child, I needed mom-friends even more juggling an infant and a toddler, so I joined a group for second-time mothers. None of us really knew each other beforehand, but motherhood brought us together.

We bonded by being honest and candid – laughing and crying over birth stories, breasts, lack of sleep, colicky babies, relationship issues and more. We shared stories we wouldn’t have shared with our closest friends or even our partners. Our connection was tribal. We empowered one another. Every interaction, especially when it was face to face made me feel stronger.

And yet, I wished there were other forums to make those connections. I wanted to learn from other mothers, who could be so candid. Doing a google search to find them or looking on Facebook felt overwhelming, impersonal and frankly unsafe.

MamaDen is a space to help fill that void.
